What is the
Fostering Access to Technology Initiative?
The Transition to Independence Program‘s Fostering Access to Technology Initiative is working to ensure that all 74 TIP Wayne State students can purchase a laptop computer, repair a computer, and maintain internet access.
Foster Care Youth often struggle with housing insecurity and move an average of 3 times per academic year. Consistent internet access means that students can maintain important personal, academic, and professional connections even during difficult times.
Why is Technology Important
for Foster Care Youth?
- Many Wayne State University class assignments are now given online.
- Searching for a job now includes maintaining an online presence.
- Many foster care youth tell stories of finding long lost relatives via Facebook and other social media.
