Fostering Success Michigan
3rd Annual Statewide Summit
On Friday, May 16, 2014, TIP Wayne State Staff and Students attended the 3rd Annual Statewide Summit hosted by Fostering Success Michigan on the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Staff and students were able to hear from featured speakers John M. Dunn- President of Western Michigan University, Caroline Altman Smith- senior program officer for The Kresge Foundation, Brittany Bartkowski- graduate of Eastern Michigan University's M.A.G.I.C. (Mentorship Access Guidance in College) Program, and the motivational poetry of The Kinetic Affect.
Students attended a special session entitled "Identity Development, Effective Storytelling" in which students learned the "unique actions they can take in supporting their identities." While staff attended sessions "Policies Affecting Young Adults from Foster Care", "Funder Insights", "How to be a Supportive Adult", "Working with Students as Partners", "Build Your Network: High School and College Resources", and "We Do Great Work: Effectively Communicating to Partners and Funders about Your Work."
