Tom Joins the Team!
Tom Lam moved from San Diego, California to Detroit, Michigan because he liked the several educational opportunities that the region provides. Now he works to enhance the educational opportunities of others. Tom Lam is the new Lead Peer Mentor for the Transition to Independence Program at Wayne State University. His primary task is to facilitate the relationship between peer mentees and mentors. Tom pairs students that will work well together and, “check(s) up on them to make sure they are there for each other.” Tom also attends each weekly APEX 1000 Course to support the TIP Wayne State students who attend.
Tom is pursuing a Master’s Degree in the Wayne State University School of Social Work. He is a member of the School’s Leadership Track and hopes to bring his organizational experience to the TIP Wayne State Team. Tom describes himself as someone who wants to make sure that “everyone in on board with the same agenda,” being organized and serving students with efficiency is very important to him.
